The Arts

Where creativity meets commentary — and occasionally, a deadline.

The Arts section is The Hairy Times’ celebration of culture in all its forms. Art doesn’t exist in a vacuum — it reflects the world we live in, challenges the assumptions we carry, and occasionally makes us deeply uncomfortable in the best possible way.

WORKS BY ANDREW HAHN

ORIGINAL PAINTINGS · LIMITED AVAILABILITY · COLLECTOR EDITIONS

The Artist

Andrew Hahn is a self-described accidental painter whose work has been described by at least three people — two of whom are family members — as “striking,” “evocative,” and once, memorably, “very large.” Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, Hahn brings to his practice the same restless curiosity that drives his journalism: an insistence on looking directly at the thing everyone else is walking past.

His canvases are bold. They are unapologetic. They occupy a room in the way that only truly committed art — or a very large piece of furniture — can. Critics have noted his fearless use of color, his instinct for composition, and his willingness to let a painting breathe rather than overwork it into submission. (He also knows when to put the brush down, which, as any painter will tell you, is half the battle.)

Hahn’s work has been exhibited in private collections across North America and, depending on how broadly one defines “internationally,” also in one Airbnb in Cancun. He paints the way he writes — with conviction, with humor, and with the firm belief that the world is more interesting when you pay attention to it.

“I don’t paint what I see. I paint what I think I see, filtered through everything I’ve read, experienced, and half-remembered. Which, when you think about it, is also how most journalism works.”

— Andrew Hahn, Founder & Editor, The Hairy Times

ORIGINAL · ACRYLIC ON CANVAS · 2025

A work of quiet intensity. Bold in its structure, deliberate in its restraint. This piece rewards the patient viewer — the more time you spend with it, the more it reveals. Suitable for a prominent wall in any serious collection, corporate lobby, or very well-appointed living room.

Provenance: Artist’s studio. One careful owner (the artist). No known forgeries.

Composition No. 2

ORIGINAL · ACRYLIC ON CANVAS · 2026

The artist’s most recent work, completed in early 2026. There is an urgency to this piece that was not present in earlier work — a sense that the painter has something to say and has decided, finally, to say it at full volume. Commanding. Uncompromising. Slightly impossible to look away from.

Fresh from the studio. The paint may still be emotionally wet.

Red & Black Study

ORIGINAL · ACRYLIC ON CANVAS · 2025

There is nothing accidental about red and black together. This piece is deliberate, confrontational, and deeply satisfying — a study in contrast that refuses to be ignored. The kind of work that anchors a room and quietly dominates every conversation in it.

Bold. Unapologetic. Significantly underpriced.

Original painting by Andrew Hahn

Composition No. 3

ORIGINAL · ACRYLIC ON CANVAS · 2025

A work of layered complexity that reveals itself slowly. What first appears as pure abstraction resolves, on closer inspection, into something almost architectural — a structure of color and form that suggests depth without ever fully explaining itself. The mark of a mature hand.

Depth. Mystery. Would look extraordinary above a fireplace.

Art & Culture Commentary

We believe culture is news. The films getting made, the art being funded, the exhibitions that spark conversation — these are not soft stories. They are the stories that tell us who we are and who we’re becoming.
